Salmon has a strong and sturdy build, and came out of high school known more for his abilities as a sturdy backstop with a cannon for an arm. His arm strength has led to him being used more as a pitcher, with the ability to sit in the low-90s. His offspeed stuff is a work in progress, but he has shown the ability to spin a promising breaking ball. He could be a candidate to be a short reliever down the road, but may opt to pursue his commitment to Jackson State.
