ROUND 6: Hiram Burgos - RHP - SIGNED
6'0", 205, R/R, Bethune-Cookman University (Florida)
BREWERFAN.NET SCOUTING REPORT:
Burgos doesn't win too many observers over for his short yet compactly strong frame, or for his stuff, as he tops out in the low-90s. However, he does win people over with an absolutely fearless and tenacious approach on the mound. He never gives into a situation, and has never faced a situation that he has back down from. He opened the season vs. Stephen Strasburg and San Diego State as part of the MLB Urban Youth Academy classic in San Diego, and recently shut down perennial powerhouse Miami over six innings of work. He typically pitches in the upper-80s, and has a good, not great, three pitch mix. His approach allows him to strike out more batters than his stuff would normally dictate, but that also causes him to get hit hard as he challenges batters more often than most.
NOTES & INFO:
Born August 4, 1987 in Cayey, Puerto Rico
2008 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Year
2009 Second Team All-MEAC selection
