Why are they keeping Smith up if he hasn't even shown he can pitch in the majors? At least Burns had a decent outing. I don't understand the logic of
this. Anybody have any insights?

My thoughts are that they want Burns starting. Also, before either were called up, I believe Smith slightly "deserved it" more, though both deserved
a shot based on what they'd been doing. Also, Smith is a few years younger and might be more of a long-term guy, wheras Burns might be a AAAA guy.

Can't tell you what they are thinking but I guess they just want another short innings guy. Burns was more of a long relief guy.
Maybe they feel that smith has the ability to pitch well right now in the majors even though we haven't seen it yet. edit: AOL-speak (replaced "u" with "you") --1992

I would imagine it's to allow Burns to get back into his SP routine down in AAA. Smith was a BP guy anyways.

I wasnt able to catch the part where he entered. Whyd he only face 1/2 hitters?
I stayed tuned in and figured it out.

Both have high major league ERA's and small sample sizes from previous organizations. Smith was pitching better in Nashville so I'm fine with him
staying aboard. I would hope at some point Melvin gets an arm and Smith goes back down.

I agree that it's to keep Burns starting in AAA. If we need a spot starter at the MLB level, he'd probably be the guy at this point, as McClung and
DiFelice would take a while to stretch out. I wouldn't really trust most of the rest of the Nashville staff to make a major league start.
Also, does this move mean that we finally get rid of Wright, or is Cody (or someone else) going to be sent back down? |
