Are the Cards done? |
Lead | ||
|
With their loss today they will fall 5 back of the Cubs with about 15 or so to play. If the Cubs go 8-8 the rest of the way to finish with 83 wins the Cards
would have to go 14-4 the rest of the way to tie them. This is assuming the Cubs hold on to win tonight (they're up 5-2 in the 6th). I say you can probably
stick a fork in them. The Cards are done. It's a two team race now.

Could the Cubs lose 4 of 6? Yep.
Could the Cards win 5 of 6? Yep. They'd be 2 out with a week and a half left if that happened, so they are not out of it. However, they are certainly not favored at this second. |

BP calculated the Cards' chanced at 3% before their loss today and the Cub's win. Call that what you will.

Superstition prevents me from saying they are done.

By the end of this weekend we'll know if the Cards are done. I wouldn't mind seeing them win 3 of 4 from the Cubs.

The cards are mostly done. Can they still come back and win it? Sure but it's very unlikely.

With their rotation and lineup I think the Cards are done barring some sort of divine intervention. I hope they prove me wrong this weekend, though.

The Cards need to sweep the Cubs to get back in it... we need the Cards to sweep the Cubs to give us our best chance to win it all.
Lets just hope the Cards sweep the Cubs. |

Can't say they're out of it when they play 3 head to head this weekend.

the cards control their own destiny almost as much as the brewers and cubs. 7 of their remaining 18 v. the crew and
cubs and only 4 other games with teams that are still playing for something (philly/mets). that leaves 7 games with pittsburgh and houston. the calendar is
stacked against them - an older team playing 35 games in 34 days to finish the season - but it's not solidly out of the question just yet.
i'm going to paraphrase here: somewhere in the doug melvin/billy beane commandments it says thou shalt not trade top prospects for sample-sizable closers;
to the contrary, thou shalt develop said closers and spin them in such deals when possible.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the Brewers win all 3, and the Cards take 3 of 4 (or all 4!)

Go Cards go. Sweep the Cubs. If I have to reassess that and worry about them after that series I might. But the Cards would need a minor miracle to win the
division.

I don't think this is the Cardinals year, but I hope they sweep the Cubs this weekend.
I'm actually going to Miller Park both Saturday and Sunday. Should definitely be an exciting weekend for baseball. |

It couldn't have set up better for the Brewers. Baseball is a game of ebbs and flows, especially in the NL Central this year. The Cards are due. Let's
take care of business against the Reds and we should have a 1/2-1 1/2 game lead by the end of the weekend (knock on wood).
