BTW, if you hear where your guys will be placed to start out of the season before they are announced, please let us know. It's one of the most exciting things about spring.

Hi Josh, just out of curiosity, how would you handle a player like Jose Capellan. To my mind his continued trade demands only hurt his chances to return to the majors as the Brewers will not trade him without getting fair return, and I suspect they will be less likely to call up a player who is mad at the organization.
Just to be clear I'm not asking you to comment on Jose, but asking how you as an agent would handle a situation like this. -------------

To totally cop out, I can't comment on a situation I know nothing about. Ask me again without using names

Re: DDSM | #51 | ||

So, completely hypothetically speaking, if a player wants to be traded, how vocal would you be about the player's demands? Because hypothetically speaking, it seems like the more that's said publicly, the less bargaining power the team has, and thus the less chance they'll get a decent trade offer.

Carlin homered in AA
To answer the question, I would try to work with the team to resolve the situation as fast as possible. At the end of the day however I work for the player and sometimes that conflicts with the teams best interests, and unfortunately the team holds all the cards in that situation. Im a believer in teamwork in resolving a situation so I would be vocal to a point I suppose but I probably wouldnt handle it through the media if I could help it. |

Another late night on the road. We signed Zolio Almonte, Carlos Urena and Jose Pirela of the Yankees this month. So far what are everyones thoughts on the season? Let me know if you guys have anymore questions and thanks again for having me.

Re: DDSM | #56 | ||

Since you just mentioned signing some Yankees, do you notice any particular difference in negotiations between Cashman and Melvin, or are there any particular GM's that stand out one way or another?
Also how do you see the shortening of the time for signing draftees changing the dynamics of the signing process. Thanks for answering our questions, it's great to have a different perspective from within the business, and good luck to your clients. -------------

Re: DDSM | #57 | ||

For the minor league guys during negotiations I usually deal with area scouts or scouting directors. Each team is different, but I have a great relationship with all the teams I have had the good fortune of working with.
On a seperate note, the brewers signed another one of our clients friday, Nick Tyson a d/f from Lake City CC. He's a big kid with a ton of projection. Talk to you all soon! |
